4 CFD-G700CP/g770cp/g770cpk section 1 servicing notes notes on handling the optical pick-up block or base unit the laser diode in the optical pick-up block may suffer electrostatic breakdown because of the potential difference generated by the charged electrostatic load, etc. on clothing and the human body. during repair, pay attention to electrostatic breakdown and also use the procedure in the printed matter which is included in the repair parts. the flexible board is easily damaged and should be handled with care. notes on laser diode emission check the laser beam on this model is concentrated so as to be focused on the disc reflective surface by the objective lens in the optical pick- up block. therefore, when checking the laser diode emission, observe more than 30 cm away from the objective lens. chuck plate jig on repairing on repairing cd section, playing a disc without the cd lid, use chuck plate jig. code number of chuck plate jig : x-4918-255-1 laser diode and focus search operation check 1. turn on the [power] button. 2. open the cd lid. 3. turn on sw2 with screwdriver, etc. as following figure. 4. press the u (cd) button. 5. confirm the laser diode emission while observing the objecting lens. when there is no emission, auto power control circuit or optical pick-up is broken. objective lens moves up and down three times for focus search. sw2 safety check-out after correcting the original service problem, perform the following safety check before releasing the set to the customer: check the antenna terminals, metal trim, ?etallized?knobs, screws, and all other exposed metal parts for ac leakage. check leakage as described below. leakage test the ac leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a return to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 ma (500 microamperes.). leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods. 1. a commercial leakage tester, such as the simpson 229 or rca wt-540a. follow the manufacturers instructions to use these instruments. 2. a battery-operated ac milliammeter. the data precision 245 digital multimeter is suitable for this job. 3. measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a v om or battery-operated ac voltmeter. the ?imit?indication is 0.75 v, so analog meters must have an accurate low-voltage scale. the simpson 250 and sanwa sh-63trd are examples of a passive vom that is suitable. nearly all battery operated digital multimeters that have a 2 v ac range are suitable. (see fig. a) fig. a. using an ac voltmeter to check ac leakage. 1.5 k ? 0.15 f ac voltmete r (0.75 v) to exposed metal parts on set earth ground this appliance is classified as a class 1 laser product. the class 1 laser product marking is located on the rear exterior. laser component in this product is capable of emitting radiation e xceeding the limit for class 1.

CFD-G700CP (1/2) basic operations * vol + (volume + on the remote) 2 ,  0 and * (on the unit) have a tactile dot. before using the unit to turn on/o the power pr ess power ) . to adjust the volume pr ess vol +, C (volume +, C on the remote) 2 . to listen through headphones co nnect the headphones to the - (headphones) jack < . to select the sound characteristic pr ess rock, dance, salsa, reggaeton or flat , to select the kind of audio emphasis that you want. (on the remote, press sound , repeatedly.) to reinforce the bass sound pr ess power drive woofer (woofer on the re mote) 8 to select or on th e display. is more e ective. when the woo fer function works, the ring on the front panel lights up. to return to normal sound, press the button repeatedly until the indication disappears from the display. notes ? w hile the sleeping timer is on, the ring does not light, even if the woo fer function is used. ? wh en you use the headphones, the woofer function does not work. playing a cd/mp3 disc 1 pre ss push open/close 1 on the unit, and place a disc with the label side up on the cd compartment. to close the cd compartment, press push open/ close 1 on the unit. 2 pre ss  on the unit ( on the remote) 0 . e unit plays all the tracks/mp3 les once. wh en you place mp3 discs, mp3 appears in the display a er the unit reads the le information. audi o cd tr ack number playing time mp3 disc mp3 le number after the song title is displayed, the playing time* will appear. * if the playing time is more than 100 minutes, it appears --:-- in the display. to pr ess pause playback  on the unit ( on the remote) 0 . to resume play, press it again. stop playback  0 . go to the next track/mp3 le ? / . go back to the pr ev ious track/ mp3 le ? / . se lect a folder on an mp3 disc + to go forward and C to go backward . . locate a point whi le listening to the so und ? (forwa rd) or ? (backward) / while playing and hold it until you nd the point. ( or ? @ on the remote) locate a point whi le observing th e display ? (forwa rd) or ? (backward) / in pause and hold it until you nd the point. ( or ? @ on the remote) remove the cd push open/close 1 . tips ? playback starts from the track/mp3 le you last stopped playing (resume play). during stop, the track/mp3 le number to be played is displayed. ? to cancel the resume play (to start play from the beginning of the rst track/mp3 le), press  0 while the cd is stopped. when you op en the cd compartment or turn o the unit, the resume play is al so canceled. note yo u cannot locate a speci c track if shuf or pgm is lit in the display. press  0 , and then pr ess mode 6 repeatedly until shuf and pgm disappear from the display. example of folder structure and playing order e playing order of the folders and les is as follows: fo lder mp3 le notes on mp3 discs ? when th e disc is inserted, the unit reads all the les on that disc. during this time, reading is displayed. if there are many folders or non-mp3 les on the disc, it may take a long time for play to b egin or for the next mp3 le to start play. we recommend that you do not save unnecessary folders or les ot her than mp3 ones in the disc to be used for mp3 listening. ? a folder that does not include an mp3 le is skipped. ? ma ximum number of les: 255 ma ximum number of folders: 150 (including the root folder) ma ximum number of folders and les in total: 256 ma ximum directory levels: 8 ? fo lder names and le names can be displayed with up to 30 characters including quotation marks. ? e characters a - z, 0 - 9, and _ can be displayed on this unit. other characters are displayed as _. ? is unit conforms to version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 of the id3 tag format. wh en the le has the id3 tag information, song title, artist name and album name can be displayed. if the le does not have th e id3 tag information, no title appears instead of song title, n o artist appears instead of artist name and no album appears instead of album name. e id3 tag information can be displayed with up to 15 characters. ? wh en naming, be sure to add the le extension mp3 to the le name. ? if you put the extension mp3 to a le other than an mp3 le, the unit cannot recognize the le properly and will generate random noise that could damage your speakers. ? e le name does not correspond to the id3 tag. listening to the radio 1 pr ess radio/band ? auto preset - on the unit (radio/band - on the remote) repeatedly. ea ch time you press the button, the indication changes as follows: fm ? a m 2 hold down tune + or C . until the frequency digits begin to change in the display. e unit automatically scans the radio frequencies and stops when it nds a clear station. if you cannot tune in a station, press t une + or C . repeatedly to change the frequency step by step. when an fm stereo broadcast is received, st appears. tip if the fm broadcast is noisy, pr ess mode 6 until mono appears in th e display and the radio will play in monaural. playing a tape use buttons on th e unit for the operation. 1 pr ess  * on the unit, and insert the tape into the tape compartment with the side you want to play facing upward. use type i (normal) tape only. close the compartment. ma ke sure there is no slack in the tape to avoid damaging the tape or the unit. 2 pr ess * on the unit. e unit starts playing. to pr ess pause playback * on the unit. to resume play, press it again. stop playback  * on the unit. fas t-forward or rewind* or ? (rewind or fast forward) * on the unit. ej ect the cassette  * on the unit. * when the tape is wound to the end, press  * to release or ? * . recording on a tape use buttons on th e unit for the operation. 1 pr ess  * on the unit to open the tape c ompartment and insert a blank tape with the side y ou want to record on facing upward. use type i (normal) tape only. close the compartment. 2 se lect the program source you want to record. to record from the cd player, press  0 on the unit an d place a cd. to record from the radio, tune in the station you want (see listening to the radio). 3 pr ess  * on the unit to start recording ( is depressed automatically). to press paus e recording * on the unit. pr ess the button again to res ume recording. stop re cording  * on the unit. tips ? ad ju sting the volume or the audio emphasis will not a ect the recordin g level. ? fo r the best results, use the ac power as a power source for recording. ? to erase a recording, proceed as follows: 1 insert the tape whose recording you want to erase. 2 make sure that tape is displayed. (if tape is not displayed, press * on the unit or press function > on the remote until it appears in the display.) 3 press  * on the unit.

during shu e play, you cannot select the previous track/mp3 le by pr essing ? / . ? e resume function does not work during shu e play. creating your own program (program play) yo u can arrange the playing order of up to 15 tracks/mp3 les on a cd. 1 pr ess  0 . cd appears in the display. 2 pr ess mode 6 until pgm ashes in the display. 3 pr ess ? on the remote while the unit is stopped. to check the order of tracks/mp3 les before play pr ess dspl/ent ; on the unit. ev ery time you press the button, the track number and th e playing order appear. to change the current program pr ess  0 once if the cd is stopped and twice if the cd is playing. e current program will be erased. en create a new program following the programing procedure. tips ? if you try to program 16 tracks/mp3 les or more, full will appear in the display. ? yo u can play the same program again, since the program is saved until you open the cd compartment or turn o the pow er of the unit. ? yo u can record your own program. a er you have created the pr ogram, insert a blank tape and press  * on the unit to start recor ding. ? e resume function does not work during program play. presetting radio stations yo u can store radio stations into the units memory. you can preset up to 30 radio stations, 20 for fm and 10 for am in any order. 1 pr ess radio/band ? au to preset - on the unit to select the band. 2 hold down radio/band ? au to preset - on the unit for 2 seconds until auto ashes in the display. 3 pr ess dspl/ent ; on the unit. e stations are stored in memory from the lower fr equencies to the higher ones. if a station cannot be preset automatically yo u need to preset a station with a weak signal manually. 1 pr ess radio/band ? au to preset - on the unit to select the band. 2 tu ne in a station you want. 3 hold down dspl/ent ; on the unit for 2 seconds until the preset number ashes in the display. 4 pr ess preset + or C / on the unit until the preset number you want for the station ashes in the display. 5 pr ess dspl/ent ; on the unit. e new station replaces the old one. on the remote 1 pr ess radio/band - until the band you want appears in the display. 2 tu ne in a station you want. 3 hold down enter a for 2 seconds until the preset number ashes in the display. 4 pr ess preset + or C / until the preset number you want for the station ashes in the display. 5 pr ess enter a . tip e preset radio stations remain in memory even if you unplug the ac power cord or remove the batteries. playing preset radio stations 1 pr ess radio/band ? au to preset - on the unit to select the band. 2 pr ess preset + or C / on the unit to tune in the stored station. on the remote 1 pr ess radio/band - . 2 pr ess preset + or C / to tune in the stored station. fa lling asleep to music 1 play the music source you want. 2 pr ess sleep : to display sleep. 3 pr ess sleep : to select the minutes until the unit goes o automatically. ea ch time you press the button, the indication changes as follows: a uto* ? 60min ? 30min ? 20min ? 10min ? off. * when you select auto, the cd or tape stops playing in 90 minutes at most and the unit goes o automatically. when you ar e listening to the radio, the radio goes o in 90 minutes. if 4 seconds have passed a er you pressed sleep : , th e minutes in the display are entered. wh en the preset time has passed, the unit goes o au to ma tically. to c ancel the sleep function pr ess power ) to turn o the power. note wh en you are playing a tape using this function: if the tape length of one side is longer than the set time, the unit will not go o until the tape reaches the end. connecting optional component yo u can enjoy the sound from an optional component such as a portable digital music player through the speakers of this unit. be sure to turn o the pow er of each component before making any connections. fo r details, refer to the instruction manual of the component to be connected. built-in audio cable with stereo-mini plug audio connecting cable (not supplied) or (e.g.,por table digital music player) to a udio in jack to the line output jack 1 connect the built-in audio cable with stereo-mini plug 4 on the unit to the line output jack of the portable digital music player or other components*. 2 turn the unit and the connected component on. 3 pr ess audio in 6 on the unit and start playing sound on the connected component. e sound from the connected component is output from the speakers. * to connect the unit to a tv or vcr, use an extension cable (not supplied) with a stereo-mini jack on one end (for the built-in audio cable) and two phono plugs on the other end. recording the sound from the connected co mponent 1 insert a blank tape. 2 pr ess audio in 6 on the unit to display audio in. 3 pr ess  * on the unit. recording starts. 4 play the optional component connected to the unit. tip sh ou ld the built-in audio cable 4 become damaged, you can use the audio in jack 3 to connect an optional component to the unit. use an audio connecting cable (not supplied) with a stereo mini plug on on e end (for the audio in jack 3 ). make sure the plug on the other end is suited to the jack on the optional component; for example, a stereo-mini plug for a portable digital music player, or two phono plug s for a tv or vcr. notes ?
